The Chevrolet Impala is a full-sized car produced by Chevrolet, a subsidiary of General Motors. It was one of the best selling vehicles in United States and it is one of the most expensive cars in the world.

First Generation (1958-1960)

The first generation Chevrolet Impala was introduced in the model year 1958 as 1959 model. It was offered in convertible and in coupe versions.

The 1958 Chevrolet Impala featured body on frame construction.

Second Generation (1961-1964)

The second generation Chevrolet Impala was slightly restyled in the model year 1961 and it was produced based on the GM B platform. It featured C pillar styling in 1962 for all models except sport sedan.

The standard engine to the model include a 5.7 liter V8 version that delivers 340 hp of power, while it also offered 6.7 liter engine as optional.

Third Generation (1965-1970)

The Chevrolet Impala was totally redesigned in 1965. The annual sales of the model were more than one million in the United States market.

New features to the model include wood grained accents on the dashboard, and unique upholstery. The SUV model was reintroduced again in 1966 with slight modifications. The high performance sports version, Impala SS was released during this period.

Fourth Generation (1971-1976)

The fourth generation Chevrolet Impala was the first largest full-sized vehicle ever manufactured by General Motors. The sales of the model had been declined during this period. The exterior dimensions and the interior styling remained same as that of in the previous version.

Fifth Generation (1977-1985)

The Impala model released in this generation was shorter in overall length, narrower and taller than before. The sales of the model had been increased substantially during this period. It won the Motor Trend’s Car of the Year Award in 1977.

Sixth Generation (1994-1996)

The sixth generation Chevrolet Impala was designed and produced based on the General Motors B platform. It was slightly redesigned for 1994.

The high performance version, Chevrolet Impala SS model was reintroduced again at Detroit Auto Show in 1991. The standard engine to the model was 8.2 liter version, while it also offered 5.7 liter engine as optional.

Seventh Generation (2000-2005)

The seventh generation Chevrolet Impala was released as a replacement to Lumina and it is designed on the platform of W-body. It was offered in front wheel drive. Two engine choices were offered, V6 and super charged V6. Standard engine to the model was a 3.8 liter super charged V6 version that delivers 240 hp of power. The large SUV model can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a time span of just 6.5 seconds.

Eighth Generation (2006-Present)

The present Chevrolet Impala model was introduced at Los Angeles Auto Show in 2005. It shares its basic design with Buick LaCrosse. It is offered in three trim versions, the base model LS, LT and high level LTZ.
